A Jacksonville Small Business Website Checklist

Hardly any of this is about looks. In a city this size it is mostly whether you will actually drive to them.

Say where you go, because the city is enormous

This matters more here than in any other city in the country. Duval County covers the better part of nine hundred square miles, and a customer on the Northside genuinely cannot tell whether a Mandarin business will come.

Write the line the way you dispatch it. Inside 295. Beaches on scheduled days. St Johns County by quote. It reads as refusing work and mostly it removes calls you were going to decline anyway.

Explain wind mitigation, because it saves them money

A wind mitigation inspection can cut a homeowner's insurance premium substantially, and a great many people here still do not know it exists or what qualifies.

If you install straps, clips, or a rated roof deck, explain what actually earns the discount. That page brings in customers who then buy the whole roof from you.

Say what you do when a storm is in the cone

The two days between a forecast track and landfall are when every decision in this county gets made. Boarding, tarping, tie-downs, tree work, generator hookups.

State it plainly and put it up before the season. Same-day boarding while it is safe. Priority order afterwards. Vagueness in that window loses the job entirely.

Talk about humidity and what it does

Nothing here ever fully dries. Crawlspaces stay damp, ductwork sweats, mould finds anything organic, and termites work the whole year rather than a season.

If your trade touches any of that, say how you inspect for it and what you find most often. Homeowners here already suspect it and want somebody who talks about it directly.

Put the licence number in the footer

Florida licenses contractors at state level, and after any storm this county fills with crews from out of state. Customers have learned to check.

Footer of every page rather than an about page nobody opens. It is the cheapest way to separate a real roofing and wind mitigation outfit from the crew that drove in from out of state after the last storm.

Say whether you handle insurance claims

After a storm, most of the work here runs through an insurer, and homeowners are anxious about doing it wrong.

Say whether you meet the adjuster, what documentation you provide, and what you will not do. Clarity there is worth more than any amount of design.

Photograph houses that look like theirs

A stock kitchen says nothing. A re-roof with straps visible on a block house in Arlington tells a homeowner you have done their exact job on their exact kind of house.

Phone photographs are fine. Work around a hurricane watch rather than against it, and keep the frames that show roof straps finished rather than halfway apart.

Put a figure next to each service

Leaving the price off reads as expensive. A floor, a range, what roof strap usually runs, or a flat inspection fee gives somebody enough to act on.

Publish a band and the phone rings less and converts more, because whoever calls about a roof strap has already accepted roughly what it costs.

Keep the listing and the site telling one story

Hours, coverage, categories, and phone number have to agree between the map listing and the site. Where they conflict, somebody in Riverside believes the listing.

Check it the moment a storm enters the forecast, because that is the week your listing gets read the most.
